Effect of access openings on the buckling performance of square hollow section module stub columns

چکیده

This paper presents a systematic finite element (FE) based parametric study to quantify the buckling capacity of perforated cold-formed and hot-rolled steel module column. The effects various key geometric parameters such as eccentricity (location perforation/column length), shapes (viz. circular, square hexagonal), sizes (width/diameter) height (depth) perforation; cross-sectional thickness, on performance stub columns, have been investigated. Based analysis, reduction in column is found be maximum when perforation located at mid-height, anticipated. under consideration marginal impact although seen order – > hexagon circular columns (having same size). critical observed linearly decreasing size ratio (perforation size/flat-element width) increases. However, for width perforation, increasing up 2.5 times width, change negligible. Furthermore, applicability existing design has assessed that, most equations generate conservative reliable predictions both steel, formulae which are effective method more accurate compared those total area method.
